The cold means a lot of things to different people. For some, the beauty of soft snow and glistening ice captures the imagination. For others, the cold represents danger and a credible threat to survival. For yet others, the cold provides clarity and context for a harsh world. Whatever impresses you about the cold, these items are sure to capture that feeling and turn it into something useful for your adventurers.

ARMOR OF RIME                                        PRICE 8,300 gp
Slot armor; CL 5th; Weight 40 lbs.
Aura faint transmutation

The links of this elegant chainmail are made from a gleaming white metal of unknown origin and seem to sparkle like ice in the sun. Though the armor weighs the same as normal chainmail, it feels light on the body, leaving the wearer in a state of extreme comfort.

In addition to functioning as a suit of +1 chainmail, an armor of rime has special properties relating to snow and ice. When surrounded by falling snow, the wearer of this armor can spend a move action to camouflage himself, gaining total concealment for 1 round while within the snow. Additionally, up to 3 times per day, the wearer of this armor can meld his form with a piece of contiguous ice of his size or smaller. If he does, he loses the ability to move but gains improved cover. This effect lasts for 1 minute.

None of an armor of rime’s unique abilities count as an enhancement bonus equivalent, and it is treated as a +1- equivalent armor for the purposes of the cost of further improving its magical abilities.

BOWL OF FRIGID WATER                      PRICE 16,000 gp
Slot none; CL 1st; Weight 1 lb.
Aura faint transmutation

This gorgeous glass bowl is resistant to cracking and scratches, and is subtly engraved with images of frozen glaciers. Crystal clear water fills it almost to the brim, and a pair of handles allow for easy carrying.

This bowl requires two hands to safely carry and is filled with enchanted water that automatically replenishes each day at dawn. A character can empty the bowl of its enchanted water and speak a command word to produce any of the following effects. The character can create a barrier of ice that is up to 25 feet long and 10 feet high, which must be anchored to a solid surface. This barrier functions identically to a wall of ice spell, except that the barrier remains for 24 hours or until it is destroyed. Alternatively, if the enchanted water is poured into a body of liquid water, it freezes that water to a depth of 6 inches in a 20-foot radius, allowing it to be crossed. Finally, the enchanted water can be emptied to create ice elemental servitors. The bowl can produce a single Large ice elemental, or two Medium ice elementals, or 4 Small ice elementals. The summoned elementals remain for 1 hour and obey any commands you give without question, provided you can communicate with them.

GREATSWORD OF FROST                       PRICE 90,350 gp
Slot none; CL3rd; Weight 8 lbs.
Aura faint evocation

A masterpiece of the weaponsmith’s craft, this arrow-straight blade is crafted from the finest steel, mined from the frozen earth beneath the glacial peaks of the world’s highest mountains. The handle is crafted from silver that is permanently cold to the touch, and engravings along the sides of the blade read “Breath of Winter” in the Elven and Dwarven tongues.

In addition to functioning as a +2 frost greatsword, a greatsword of frost becomes more powerful in areas of cold environments. While in an area where the temperature is below 0 degrees Fahrenheit, the greatsword of frost’s enhancement bonus is increased to +5. Additionally, at any time, the wielder of the sword can speak “Breath of Winter” in either Elven or Dwarven tongues as a swift action in order to transform the blade into pure cold energy. While so transformed, all attacks made with the greatsword of frost are touch attacks, and all damage dealt with the weapon is cold damage. Further, while so transformed, any creature struck with the blade must succeed on a Fortitude save, with a DC equal to the damage dealt by the attack, or be staggered for 1 round. This transformation lasts for 1 round and can be used at will while in an environment of 0 degrees Fahrenheit or colder, or up to 3 times per day in warmer climates.

None of a greatsword of frost’s unique abilities count as an enhancement bonus equivalent, and it is treated as a +3-equivalent weapon for the purposes of the cost of further improving its magical abilities.

RING OF SNOW                                           PRICE 1,500 gp
Slot ring; CL 13th; Weight
Aura strong transmutation

Made from silver and set with a lustrous white pearl, there is no doubt as to the snow and ice motif in this ring. As if to hammer home the point, a poem about drifting snow is engraved on the interior of the band.

The ring has two functions. The first function allows the wearer to conjure a large, razor-sharp snowflake. This snowflake functions identically to a shuriken, except that it deals cold damage instead of its normal type. Creating a snowflake shuriken is a standard action, and the ring can create up to 10 snowflakes each day. Snowflake shurikens melt in 1d4 minutes, unless they are in an environment cold enough to keep snow from melting. Additionally, once per day, the wearer of this ring can cause it to snow in a 20-foot radius cylinder, centered on himself, that is 100 feet high. This snow lasts for as long as the wearer continues to concentrate on the effect (a standard action).
