It’s APOCALYPSE! Week here at NNW, and if that doesn’t say “epic destinies,” then I don’t know what does. Whether you’re here to stop the oncoming apocalypse or cause it, we have the epic destiny for you.
Beloved Savior
Not concerned with your own fate, you are more worried about stopping the forces of darkness and destruction from bringing a terrible fate to the world. Placing the needs of the many above your own, your only thoughts are to bring about peace and safety—whatever the personal risks.
Prerequisites: 21st level, good or chaotic good alignment
Some call you a martyr, others call you a fool, but most call you a hero. You think little of your own destiny, instead focusing on preventing a terrible fate from coming to pass. Perhaps it is your destiny to protect those who depend on you for salvation, or perhaps it is simply your choice, but you’re determined to lay everything on the line for what you know is right.
Immortality
While beloved saviors are not immortal, and in fact you may very well die while trying to stop whatever it is you are bent on saving people from, there is no doubt that you will live on in the memories of those you saved, and in the songs of bards and minstrels across the land. Your valor and heroism will remain in the hearts and minds of the people, and perhaps inspire others to take up your cause, or one like it.
Honored Hero: Those that you have saved—or are still fighting to save—are deeply touched by the risks you take for them. Your name is a blessing across the land, and your money is no good in any inn or tavern you go to: heroes drink and sleep for free. Long after your death, tales are told of your deeds, and statues and memorials erected in your name.
Beloved Savior Features
All Beloved Saviors have the following features.
Plucky (21st level): You gain a +1 bonus to all defenses.
Boundless Determination (24th level): Whenever you spend a healing surge, you gain an action point. That action point lasts until the beginning of your next turn. If you haven’t spent it by then, it is lost.
Honorable Ally (26th level): Once per day, when an ally is reduced to 0 or fewer hit points, you may immediately recover a single daily power you possess.
Will to Survive (30th level): At the end of each of your turns, you automatically end all conditions and ongoing damage you are suffering from that are ended by a successful saving throw.
Vengeful Destroyer
You have no interest in saving the world, but rather plan to destroy it. Your burning vengeance won’t be sated until every living thing has suffered, withered, and died, and it is your personal quest to bring doom and destruction to the world.
Prerequisites: 21st level, non-good alignment
You have seen enough of this world to know that there is something horribly wrong with it, and have come to the conclusion that the only way to fix it is to burn everything down and start over from the beginning. Maybe you’ve had to put down one too many upstart sorcerer-kings, or maybe it’s the fact that townsfolk look at you distrustfully, so ready to believe that anyone who slays dragons must also be willing to slay them. Maybe you think that these townsfolk should rise up and defend themselves, rather than sending you out to save them all the time. Or maybe you just like to watch things burn. Whatever the case, you’ve set your sights on annihilation and you’re not looking back.
Immortality
Once you start down the path of the vengeful destroyer, your name will almost certainly live on to the end of the world, whether because you, yourself cause that end, or simply because of the tales of the brave heroes who rose up to stop you. Your name will inspire terror and dread, and common folk will fear to speak it lest they somehow attract your attention even from miles or continents away.
Dreaded Scourge: Your name is a byword for death and destruction. You are spoken of in whispers, as fearful masses wonder if they will be the next to face your wrath. Heroes rise up to put a stop to the carnage that you wreak, and tales of your terrible power grow with each one you slay. Few have the courage to look you in the eye, and most men flee at your approach.
Vengeful Destroyer Features
All vengeful destroyers have the following features.
Destructive (21st level): You gain a +2 bonus on damage rolls.
Orgy of Carnage (24th level): Whenever you reduce a creature to 0 or fewer hit points with a power, you may make a basic attack against another foe as an immediate action.
Bloodlust (26th level): Once per day, when you score a critical hit on a creature, you may regain the use of a single daily power you possess.
No Mercy (30th level): Once per day, when you bloody an opponent, you may use a single encounter power on that opponent as an immediate action. That encounter power is not considered expended as a result of this ability.
That’s it for today’s article. If you don’t read Dark Designs, you may not know that this will be the last Foursaken Feature for some time. Starting next week, this slot will be set aside for Obscure Arcana, an article focusing on providing new 3.5/Pathfinder spells.
