Hello again everyone, and welcome to Magic Market, the home of the best magic items on this side of the Ebon Vault. This week, in keeping with the great traditions of this article, we’re going to be presenting you with yet another batch of incredible items to change the face of your game. I’ve got a good one for you today, as we turn our attention to everyone’s favorite items: magic weapons. But you won’t find any frilly rapiers or sissy quarterstaves in the market today; no, we’re going to be looking at the most savage and visceral weapons today— the kinds of things any 6-foot10-inch half-orc armored killing machine would be proud to call his own.
Bonebreaker
This massive greatclub is made from a single twisted and gnarled piece of ironwood. Eight-inch iron spikes form a crude ring around the bludgeon’s crown, giving it the appearance of a murderous scepter.
In addition to functioning as a +2 ironwood greatclub, bonebreaker bears a simple but deadly enchantment that allows it crush its opponents’ body and mind. Whenever a critical hit is confirmed by bonebreaker, the target suffers horrible pain, as tiny fractures form in all his bones, the trauma of which is enough to terrify even the bravest of foes. This effectively causes the target to become sickened and shaken for 1 minute.
Farflung Maul
Made entirely from stone harder than iron and partially covered in an unscourable moss stained red with blood, this gigantic hammer is etched with crude pictograms. A short scrawl in the giant tongue reads “sky death hammer,” plainly stating the item’s purpose without subtlety or elegance.
This +3 vicious sledge (see Into the Armoryfor more information on sledges) can only be effectively wielded by characters with a Strength score of 20 or greater; all other creatures are not considered proficient with it. In addition to its ordinary properties, any character wielding the sledge may make a single melee attack as a standard action, which, if successful, causes the target to be propelled through the air 10 feet directly away from the wielder without provoking any attacks of opportunity. When the target lands, he suffers an additional 1d6 points of damage and is prone.
Pick of the Destroyer
Like a terrifying and oversized miner’s pick, this heavy weapon has a spike made from adamantine that seems to swim with an eerie light. The haft is made from a human femur and is scribed with bloody Dwarven runes spelling out the phrase “All that is made can be broken.”
This +1 adamantine heavy pick is particularly prized by those who look to sunder their foes’ weapons and armor, and it bears a powerful enchantment which aids in that aim. Whenever a sunder attempt made by the wielder of a pick of the destroyer deals damage enough to give the target item the broken condition, that item is destroyed instead, reduced to dust as though it were the target of a disintegrate spell.
Trollslayer
This wicked flamberge is the height of a tall man and was forged from a single piece of blackened iron. Red leather wraps the handle and a dragon’s vertebra separates the severe wave-like blade from the humble grip.
As its name suggests, this +4 greatsword was forged to kill trolls, but its potent enchantment proves effective against many of the world’s more resilient creatures. Attacks with the trollslayer automatically stop the regeneration of any creature it strikes exactly as though it possessed the appropriate quality to stop that creature’s regeneration. The trollslayer can only stop regeneration which can be halted, and creatures whose regeneration cannot ordinarily be stopped (such as the tarrasque) are unaffected.
War Cleaver
A beautifully designed weapon, the war cleaver is a double-edged greataxe made from the highest quality steel. Complex images are engraved in the blade, which show a lone massive warrior facing down an army single-handedly on one side, and the same warrior standing on a heap of corpses on the other.
This +4 mighty cleaving greataxe was created to be the weapon wielded by a one-man army, and it bears a powerful enchantment to imbue the wielder with the spirit of a barbarian warchief. Those who wield the weapon are transformed into whirlwinds of death and destruction, capable of dispatching entire forces of enemies single-handedly. The weapon’s enchantment allows the wielder to take a single 5-foot step and make an additional attack at his highest base attack bonus whenever he deals lethal damage to a creature. Using this ability does not preclude a character armed with this weapon from making all his attacks in a round, such as if the wielder were in the process of making a full attack action when he dealt lethal damage to a creature.
