Greetings. As you are hopefully aware by now, it is Ninja Week, and that means that today’s Magic Market is going to have some ninja-themed items. What kinds of magic items? Well, let’s go ahead and take a look.
ANIMATED SHURIKEN
Aura moderate transmutation; CL 11th
Slot none; Price 1,301 gp; Weight 1/10 lb.
Construction Requirements Craft Magic Arms and Armor, animate objects; Cost 651 gp
These +3 shuriken are imbued with the smallest traces of sentience and the ability to propel themselves through the air, allowing them to turn around and continue attacking their target, even if the initial attack is a miss. If an attack made with an animated shuriken misses, the shuriken remains airborne in the target’s square, and attacks again on its own in future turns.
The animated shuriken can fly up to 30 feet and make up to one attack per turn. These additional attacks require no effort on the part of the wielder, and use the same attack bonus as the wielder’s original attack, except that each subsequent attack after the first suffers a cumulative -2 penalty, as the shuriken slowly loses control over its own movement, and its flight pattern becomes more clumsy and erratic. Once the animated shuriken’s attack bonus would be reduced to 0 or less, or in the event that a natural 1 is rolled for an attack made by the animated shuriken, the animated shuriken falls to the ground, and is considered destroyed.
While animated, an animated shuriken can be attacked in an attempt to destroy it before it can attack again. An animated shuriken has an AC of 15, hardness 16, and 5 hit points. An animated shuriken suffers a penalty on all attack rolls it makes equal to the number of hit points it has lost, and is destroyed when reduced to 0 hit points.
Some of an animated shuriken’sunique abilities count as an enhancement bonus equivalent, and it is treated as a +5-equivalent weapon for the purposes of the cost of further improving its magical abilities. Because an animated shuriken is ammunition, its cost is calculated as 1/50th the cost of a non-ammunition magic weapon. The cost to create a full group of 50 is 32,826 gp.
NINJA ARMOR
Aura faint transmutation; CL 5th
Slot armor; Price 35,155 gp; Weight 5 lbs.
Construction Requirements Craft Magic Arms and Armor, cat’s grace, spider climb, stinking cloud; Cost 17,655 gp
This suit of black, exceptionally light +2 padded armor is nearly invisible in dim or dark areas, and is a favorite of ninjas, assassins, and other stealthy infiltrators. Unlike most suits of padded armor, ninja armor has no maximum Dexterity bonus. Additionally, the armor grants a +5 competence bonus on all Acrobatics, Climb, and Stealth checks that the wearer makes.
Finally, three times per day, the wearer can speak a command word to summon a cloud of cloying black smoke which immediately fills the area around him, filling a 30-foot-radius area centered on him. This smoke functions as a stinking cloud spell (DC 14), except for the size of the cloud, and the fact that it lasts for 1 minute before dissipating. The wearer of the ninja armor is immune to the effects of any smoke created by his own armor.
Some of a ninja armor’sunique abilities count as an enhancement bonus equivalent, and it is treated as a +3-equivalent suit of armor for the purposes of the cost of further improving its magical abilities.
NINJUTSU SCROLL
Aura moderate divination; CL 11th
Slot —; Price 20,000 gp (standard), 45,000 gp (master); Weight 2 lbs.
Construction Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, creator must know the associated ninja trick or master trick; Cost 10,000 gp (standard), 22,500 gp (master)
These scrolls contain the forbidden and secret knowledge of various ninja techniques and tricks, magically inscribed through a hidden ritual that allows the knowledge to be absorbed directly into the mind, making anyone who reads the scroll a master of its technique. Each ninjutsu scroll is associated with a specific ninja trick (in the case of standard scrolls) or master trick (in the case of master scrolls), available to members of the ninja class (found in Ultimate Combat). The specific ninja trick associated with the ninjutsu scroll is chosen when the scroll is made, and cannot later be changed.
Anyone who reads the scroll immediately learns the associated trick, as long as he meets all prerequisites for that trick. A character need not be 10th level in order to gain a master trick, but would still need improved evasion in order to gain the advanced talents trick, for example. The character possesses that trick from that point onwards. If the trick requires the use of ki points, and the reader does not already have a ki pool, he gains a ki pool with just enough ki points to use the trick once. He does not gain any other use for ki points. The ninjutsu scroll can only transfer knowledge in this way once, and all writing disappears from it afterward, leaving a blank sheet of mundane (albeit high-quality) paper.
