Welcome again to Masters and Minions, where I try to create interesting NPCs and encounters that can be easily placed into your adventures. This week, a band of gnolls led by Sargna Death-Eye, their half-fiend chieftain, have been attacking local caravans, taking captives and cargo alike. The PCs can encounter Sargna while she is attacking a caravan, or the PCs themselves can become her next targets.
The band of gnolls consists of Sargna Death-Eye and two gnoll slavers mounted on dire hyenas. The stats for Sargna Death-Eye and her two followers are below; you can find the stats for the dire hyenas in the Pathfinder Bestiary.
Sargna rarely stays within the PCs’ range, using fly-by attacks to move up to the PCs, then using Great Cleave before flying back out of their reach. If two or more PCs become lined up, she uses her steel whirlwind’s line attack. The slavers try to net two of the PCs and then ride off, dragging the PCs behind them (the nets are tied to the dire hyenas). If they can’t net the PCs, they begin attacking at a distance with their composite shortbows.
A creature of nightmares, this horned, hyena-like humanoid flaps huge membranous wings as she takes to the air, her cloven hooves lifting off the cracked earth beneath her foul form. As she looks at you, it seems like her scarred right eye is staring into your very soul.
