The Doctor
Welcome again to Masters and Minions, where I strive to give you interesting NPCs and encounters that can be placed easily into your game. This week the sleepy town of Gladehaven is gripped with terror in the wake of several grisly murders. There were no signs of forced entry and all of the victims died from having their throats torn out by either the claws or teeth of some kind of large beast.
The murderer is in fact the town’s doctor, James Keith. In his youth, James was a soldier, a living weapon of the kingdom. During his time as soldier, he slaughtered countless people, civilian and soldier alike, in the name of the king. Now that James is in his thirties, all he wants to do is start over and forget the memories of his past. To accomplish this he moved away to a small town far from the capital, but his memories still haunted his dreams. He began to experiment with his alchemy, in an attempt to cleanse his mind of these horrific memories. His latest attempt was almost a success; it removed the memories but didn’t completely destroy them. Instead these memories became the horrible Hatred, a homicidal maniac bent on destroying the people that James now cares for. Hatred uses James’ form to trick his victims into letting him inside. So far James hasn’t realized that the deaths are his fault, but he begun to worry.
