Welcome again to Masters and Minions, where I strive to give you interesting NPCs and encounters that can be placed easily into your game. This week’s encounter is with Manqué Nikarym, the knight-captain of the elven kingdom of Forndor. He and Levexornisk, a silver dragon he raised from an egg, patrol the skies over the forests of Forndor. They strive to keep the skies clear of those not native to Forndor. Manqué is the current owner of Hyandaçu, an ancient weapon passed down from one generation of knight-captains to another.
In battle Manqué uses Hyandaçu as a bow, while Levexornisk uses his breath weapon and tries to keep them both out of melee range of their enemies. If forced into melee Manqué transforms Hyandaçu into a sword and buffs himself; first with stoneskin, then fire shield (chill), then haste, and finally with transformation. While Manqué is buffing himself, Levexornisk tries to keep the PCs from reaching Manqué.
Hyandaçu (Unique Weapon)
Aura faint transmutation; CL 11th Slot none (held); Price 22,700; Weight 4 lbs.
This massive bow is made entirely of razor sharp mithral, yet it clearly functions as a potent ranged weapon.
This weapon functions as a +2 mithral composite longbow (+3 Str bonus) in the hands of most users. Yet in the hands of an elf it can change into a +2 mithral elven curve blade (or vice versa) when activated as a swift action.
Construction Requirements Craft Magic Arms and Armor, creator must be an elf of at least 11th level, shrink item; Cost 9,000 gp (plus 4,700 gp for mithral composite longbow)
