Shared Spells
Hello, and welcome to the first-ever Obscure Arcana, where we bring you a handful of new spells each and every week. This week, I spent a little time looking at the spells in the Paizo book Ultimate Combat, and was struck by something new the book introduced: communal spells. Communal spells are slightly higher-level versions of existing spells that can have their effect divided amongst multiple recipients by divvying up the spell’s duration. This was a cool idea, but I couldn’t help but wonder about the choice to divide the spell by duration, rather than by some other measure. The nine spells that follow are the result.
Bear’s Endurance, Shared
This functions as the spell bear’s endurance, with the following exceptions. First, the enhancement bonus to Constitution is equal to 4 + 1 per 3 caster levels (to a maximum of +8 at 12th level). Second, this bonus is divided as the caster chooses amongst all targets. No individual target may receive an enhancement bonus greater than +4 from this spell.
Bull’s Strength, Shared
This functions as the spell bull’s strength, with the following exceptions. First, the enhancement bonus to Strength is equal to 4 + 1 per 3 caster levels (to a maximum of +8 at 12th level). Second, this bonus is divided as the caster chooses amongst all targets. No individual target may receive an enhancement bonus greater than +4 from this spell.
Cat’s Grace, Shared
This functions as the spell cat’s grace, with the following exceptions. First, the enhancement bonus to Dexterity is equal to 4 + 1 per 3 caster levels (to a maximum of +8 at 12th level). Second, this bonus is divided as the caster chooses amongst all targets. No individual target may receive an enhancement bonus greater than +4 from this spell.
Eagle’s Splendor, Shared
This functions as the spell eagle’s splendor, with the following exceptions. First, the enhancement bonus to Charisma is equal to 4 + 1 per 3 caster levels (to a maximum of +8 at 12th level). Second, this bonus is divided as the caster chooses amongst all targets. No individual target may receive an enhancement bonus greater than +4 from this spell.
Fox’s Cunning, Shared
This functions as the spell fox’s cunning, with the following exceptions. First, the enhancement bonus to Intelligence is equal to 4 + 1 per 3 caster levels (to a maximum of +8 at 12th level). Second, this bonus is divided as the caster chooses amongst all targets. No individual target may receive an enhancement bonus greater than +4 from this spell.
Heal, Shared
This spell enables you to channel positive energy into a number of creatures to wipe away injury and afflictions. It immediately ends any and all of the following adverse conditions affecting any of the targets: ability damage, blinded, confused, dazed, dazzled, deafened, diseased, exhausted, fatigued, feebleminded, insanity, nauseated, poisoned, sickened, and stunned. It cures a total of 15 hit points of damage per caster level, to a maximum of 250 points. These hit points of healing are divided as the caster chooses amongst all targets.
Mage Armor, Shared
This spell functions as mage armor, with the following exceptions. First, the armor bonus to AC the spell provides is equal to 4 + 1 per 2 caster levels (to a maximum of +9 at 10th level). Second, this bonus is divided as the caster chooses amongst all targets. No individual target may receive an armor bonus greater than +4 from this spell.
Owl’s Wisdom, Shared
This functions as the spell owl’s wisdom, with the following exceptions. First, the enhancement bonus to Wisdom is equal to 4 + 1 per 3 caster levels (to a maximum of +8 at 12th level). Second, this bonus is divided as the caster chooses amongst all targets. No individual target may receive an enhancement bonus greater than +4 from this spell.
Stoneskin, Shared
This spell functions as stoneskin, except that it can target any number of creatures. When the spell has prevented a total of 10 points of damage per caster level (to a maximum of 150 points at 15th level), from amongst all targets, the spell is discharged.
